Joe Gamble has been capped at under-21 level |
Cork City's Joe Gamble has been drafted into the Republic of Ireland squad for the training camp in Portugal and the friendly against Chile on 24 May. Boss Steve Staunton took the decision to call up Gamble after the withdrawal of Liam Miller, Jonathan Douglas and Stephen Elliott from the panel.
Douglas and Miller are both involved in Leeds' Championship play-off final while Sunderland's Elliott is injured.
Gamble will play for Cork on 20 May before linking up with the Irish squad.
The 24-year-old central midfielder was capped at under-21 level and had spells at Reading and Barnet before returning home to Ireland to play for Cork.
He helped Cork claim last season's Eircom League title.
The other members of the Republic squad will travel to Portugal on Friday before returning to Dublin for the game against Chile.
