Marks out of 10 for the Scotland players after their friendly international match with Switzerland.

Craig Gordon: The Hearts goalkeeper was given no chance at Switzerland's opening two goals and had little else to do before going off at half-time (replaced with Neil Alexander after 49 minutes).

David Weir: The Everton veteran was part of a three-man defence who were caught out too often while trying to play an offside game (replaced with Steven Caldwell, 56 minutes).

Gary Caldwell: The Celtic-bound Hibernian central defender never looked comfortable against the fast and clever Swiss attack.

Andy Webster: The Hearts central defender made some timely tackles but was part of an uncertain back line.

Christian Dailly: The central defender was asked to play a right wing-back role. Was enthusiastic as usual without being much of a threat down the wing but was Scotland's most dangerous player in the box at set-pieces.

Nigel Quashie: For all his renowned strength, Quashie failed to impose himself in midfield and played on the fringes of the match to complete a miserable week after his sending off and suspension with West Brom.

Barry Ferguson: The Rangers midfielder is playing through the pain barrier ahead of foot surgery but was Scotland's most creative force, setting Kenny Miller up for an early chance to open the scoring (replaced with Teale, 50 minutes).

Darren Fletcher: The Manchester United midfielder worked hard as usual but seemed to lack his normal confidence and too often ran into blind alleys in which he received little support from his colleagues.

Graham Alexander: The Preston right-back battled gamely after once more being asked to patrol the left flank, but Switzerland's first two goals came down his wing and he squandered a couple of decent shooting chances.

James McFadden: McFadden has been playing more regularly with Everton in recent months but produced one of his poorest displays for Scotland. The striker threatened with a couple of free-kicks but generally seemed more interested in trying to prove his high level of skill than in helping his side to victory.

Kenny Miller: The Celtic-bound Wolves striker meekly squandered an early opportunity to put Scotland ahead. But his commitment cannot be questioned and his resilience was rewarded with a fine goal and he set up what could have been a second for Gary Teale.

Substitutes

Neil Alexander (on for Gordon, 49 mins): The Cardiff goalkeeper earned his first cap and had little to do before being given little chance by Switzerland's third goal. Produced one good, parried stop late on.

Steven Caldwell (on for Weir, 56 mins): The Sunderland defender looked fairly comfortable beside brother Gary after coming on for David Weir, came close to scoring with a header well saved by substitute goalkeeper Fabio Coltorti but was left standing as Switzerland scored their third goal.

Gary Teale (on for Ferguson, 50 mins): The Wigan winger looked nervous at first after coming on to win his first cap but produced a fine pass to set up Scotland's goal and almost scored himself, deflecting a Kenny Miller cross just wide with his chest late on.
