Ball joined PSV from Rangers in the summer

Ball, 26, is the only Englishman to have played under Hiddink after joining him at PSV Eindhoven in the summer.

He told BBC Sport: "His CV speaks for itself. If the manager is going to be foreign, he'd be the number-one choice.

"He's opened my mind up to a more foreign style of play. I think he'd be able to speak to the players and open up their minds."

Hiddink, 59, is one of the early favourites to succeed Sven-Goran Eriksson as England manager after the World Cup.

His agent, Cees van Nieuwenhuizen, said the Dutchman would be interested in the post on Wednesday.

Ball, who has won one cap for England, said: "His strength is he knows how to get his point across.

"There are so many players from different countries here (at PSV), but he knows how to get his football point through.

"I think he'd be a good manager (for England). He's doing a fantastic job here. If he came to me, I could only say, 'yes, go for it'."

PSV's training session on Friday was inundated with journalists and television crews from England.

And Hiddink tried to play down the speculation linking him with the England job.

"I cannot react to things which are not there to react to," he told BBC Sport.

"There's been no contact, nothing whatsoever.

"It is one of the leading countries in European football. I respect England, the football, the clubs, the manager who is in charge.

"But I am happy to be working where I am now."

He added that all the media attention in him had been slightly difficult.

"It is a little bit distracting - I hope I don't get vain or distracted," he said.

And the Dutchman said he thought England had a very good chance at this summer's World Cup finals.

"England can win, of course," he said.
