Aston Villa boss David O'Leary is disappointed over comments attributed to Sven-Goran Eriksson about the club. England boss Eriksson was quoted in the News of the World as being prepared to become manager of Villa as part of a hypothetical takeover of the club.
O'Leary said: "It is not acceptable for the national coach to speak publicly about replacing another manager.
"I will co-operate with Sven as I always have but I want recorded my dissatisfaction and my disappointment."
Eriksson's discussions were with an undercover reporter posing as a rich Arab businessman.
Meanwhile, Charlton manager Alan Curbishley believes Eriksson will remain England coach after the World Cup because the Football Association has no "plan B".
In the same newspaper story, Eriksson claimed he would quit after the finals in Germany - if England won the tournament.
"If England fall short and he goes, it would leave the FA a month to find a successor before the new term started," Curbishley told the Daily Express.
"Right now there seems to be no plan B. That's why the FA wants him to stay.
"Should the FA be taking precautions now and sifting through a shortlist of English candidates?
"Perhaps, but it would not surprise me to see them go foreign again, simply because the credentials required for the job demand whoever gets it should be experienced."
