Gary Neville has become the latest player to pull out of England's summer tour to the USA - with Charlton's Luke Young taking his place. The Manchester United defender was due to captain his country if David Beckham and Michael Owen were not released by Real Madrid for the first game.
But the groin injury which kept Neville out of Saturday's FA Cup final has forced his withdrawal.
England play the USA on 28 May in Chicago and Colombia three days later.
A spate of top players have already pulled out of the squad, and only last week West Brom's on-loan Manchester United midfielder Kieran Richardson was called up along with Fulham's Zat Knight.
That came after Shaun Wright-Phillips, Matthew Upson and Michael Dawson pulled out.
Paul Robinson, John Terry, Wayne Bridge, Rio Ferdinand, Jamie Carragher, Ledley King, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Kieron Dyer and Wayne Rooney had previously withdrawn from the party.
Young, who began his career at Tottenham before switching to Charlton, said: "I was definitely surprised.
"I've done a lot of interviews recently after winning the player of the year
and a lot of people have mentioned the possibility of playing for England.
"It's always on your mind to play for your country but to be honest, at 25, I thought I had missed the boat."
Boss Alan Curbishley said: "I'm delighted for Luke, and it's a fantastic reward for his great season for the club.
"His player of the year award showed his performances were noted on the terraces, and the same is clearly true with Sven (Goran Eriksson, the England boss).
"It will be a great experience for him personally, and from the club's point of view it's again proof that the England set-up keeps a close eye on what's happening at The Valley."
