Danny Gabbidon hopes that his experience of leading Wales against Cyprus will not be his last. The defender took the armband from the injured Ryan Giggs, but saw his side slip to a dismal 1-0 loss in Limassol.
That led ex-Wales captain Kevin Ratcliffe to question Gabbidon's leadership skills, but the West Ham centre-back hopes for another chance.
"I'll learn from the game and hope to captain the side again - only with better results," Gabbidon told the BBC.
"I was proud to lead the team out for the first time in Cyprus, but what happened afterwards was disappointing and embarrassing."
Former Wales and Everton centre-back Ratcliffe told BBC Sport Wales that the game showed Gabbidon was unsuited to leadership. He felt that Gabbidon's communication skills were shown up and that the skipper failed to bawl out his under-performing colleagues.
But the West Ham man won support from ex-Wales international and BBC Sport columnist Matthew Jones.
"There was a communication problem, but it was something that afflicted the whole team, no-one was performing," said Jones.
"But Danny certainly has leadership qualities. He's not a ranter and raver, but someone who will lead by performance and example."
