Former Wales midfielder Matthew Jones says he is disappointed at ex-team mate Robbie Savage's decision to end his Wales career at the age of 30. "There were issues about John Toshack replacing Mark Hughes as Wales manager, but people should be able to rise above that and move on," Jones told the BBC.
"It's about being successful as a nation, that has to be the main aim.
"Robbie must have a couple of years in the engine, it's not like he's retired because he can't do it any more."
Jones, who was forced to retire from football at 23 because of injury, was surprised that Savage and Toshack had not been able to overcome their initial difficulties.
"I'm flabbergasted, I really did not see this coming," he said.

"I think that Robbie gave it a little time to see how the relationship was going with Toshack and the rest of the Wales staff. "Maybe he's come to the decision that he hasn't got a future with Wales.
"There was a conflict of personalities and there have been a lot of changes since Toshack came in, but I think Robbie is professional enough to have handled the discipline, he's not a spoilt brat.
"He has 39 caps and has played in the Premiership for seven years, so he's really a massive player who Wales are going to miss.
"He must have a couple of years left in the engine so it's not like he's retired because he can't do it any more.
