England ratings
Marks out of 10 for England players from the World Cup qualifying match against Poland.

Paul Robinson: Beaten by a well-struck volley in a rare Polish attempt on goal but otherwise very competent.

Luke Young: Solid, aside from the goal when he lost his man, and also provided a threat on the overlap.

Rio Ferdinand: Failed to adequately cover when Poland scored but otherwise led the line with authority.

John Terry: Also confused when England conceded, but his only slip in another assured, confident performance.

Jamie Carragher: Poor positioning led to Poland's goal - looked vulnerable and uncertain in his makeshift role.

Shaun Wright-Phillips: Industrious and willing but too often lacking composure when delivering the final ball.

Ledley King: Energetic, determined and accurate with his distribution after numerous ball-winning tackles.

Frank Lampard: Benefited from more freedom to push forward and finished superbly to score his goal.

Joe Cole: Went close with a first-half shot and added an extra dimension when cutting in off the left flank.

Wayne Rooney: Superb touch, vision and awareness from England's attacking fulcrum - a creative inspiration.

Michael Owen: Scored with a clever flick with typical poacher's instinct but wasted a free header in the box.

Substitutes

Peter Crouch (Wright-Phillips, 67 mins): Could not get into the game, once again looked too slow at this level.

Jermaine Jenas (Owen, 84 mins): Largely an onlooker for his few minutes on the pitch.

Alan Smith (Cole, 87 mins): No time to make an impact.
