Cardiff midfielder Jeff Whitley is set to remain in international exile |
Cardiff City pair Jeff Whitley and Phil Mulryne are set to be left out of the N Ireland squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Austria. The midfielders were sent home by NI manager Lawrie Sanchez after breaking a curfew before the games against Azerbaijan and England last month.
It is believed Sanchez will keep the duo in international exile.
Meanwhile, Lincoln City defender Gareth McAuley is expected to be called into the squad which is named on Tuesday.
NI captain Aaron Hughes is ruled out with a groin injury and fellow defender Chris Baird is suspended so Sanchez is set to bring in McAuley.
The 25-year-old former Coleraine player won his only international cap against Germany in June.
A calf injury kept him out of the victories over Azerbaijan and England.
McAuley has been outstanding for the Imps since his move from Coleraine in August last year. Sanchez is expected to name his panel for the Group Six matches on Tuesday afternoon.
Wales are the visitors to Windsor Park on Saturday with the final game of the campaign against Austria in Vienna four days later.
N Ireland are fourth in the group and three points behind third-placed Austria.
