Kevin Ratcliffe's verdict
By Kevin Ratcliffe
Former Wales and Everton captain

John Toshack has got to be proud of all his players and will be more encouraged than England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Richard Duffy challenges Joe Cole
If they were to play England again you wonder if Wales would be more positive
You only had to see the look on the England faces at the end - it was pure relief.

I was very up for the game at Old Trafford and look what happened, so this time I was apprehensive.

But Wales gave an excellent performance - they were patient, very resilient, and the only thing missing was a goal.

They played to a plan that John Toshack put forward and did exceptionally well.

You look at non-Premiership players like Sam Ricketts and Richard Duffy and they've been as good as anyone, on occasions Ricketts left Luke Young for dead. The future is definitely looking good.

If they were to play England again you wonder if Wales would be more positive, and - having competed with one of the favourites for the next World Cup - that's what the team will take to the next game.

John is trying to build a squad that's good enough for the next European Championships and it's all about giving the experience to the likes of Duffy, Ricketts, Carl Fletcher, and even Danny Gabbidon, who is still young.

The team are blending and looking hard to beat, but the concern is where the goals are going to come from.

John Toshack sends Robert Earnshaw on as a sub against England
Earnshaw changed the atmosphere and tempo of the game
In the system that John wants to play, he may have to leave star players out.

He likes to go for total football, and we saw against Austria how effective the pace of Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy was up front.

Bellamy will be injured for the Poland game, but with John Hartson suspended we'll see how Robert Earnshaw does alongside Giggs.

We looked dangerous towards the end when Earnshaw came on, he changed the atmosphere and tempo of the game.

You now have to decide whether to start with him or use him to change the game as a substitute.

It will be a different type of game in Warsaw in a different atmosphere, and it will be a big ask to get a result out there.

But it's another experience that the lads will learn from and that's the most important thing right now.
