Robbie Keane will miss Wednesday's friendly against Italy |
Robbie Keane is out of the Republic of Ireland's friendly against Italy at Lansdowne Road on Wednesday night. Keane missed Tottenham's opening Premiership game against Portsmouth on Saturday because of an ankle injury.
"Robbie felt if he had another few days he could have played but I can understand Spurs not wanting him to," said Republic manager Brian Kerr.
Keane should be available for next month's key World Cup qualifier against France in Dublin.
Matt Holland (shoulder), Richard Dunne (foot) and Graham Kavanagh (foot) also missed weekend club games but the trio have reported for training near Dublin.
Kerr has indicated that all three will feature in the game against the Italians.
Alessandro Del Piero and Francesco Totti have been named in Italy's squad for the friendly.
Del Piero last played for Italy 11 months ago when he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Moldova in a World Cup qualifier.
Totti has missed Italy's last three games but is named in a squad which does not include Antonio Cassano.
