West Brom midfielder Andy Johnson says Robbie Savage should take over from Gary Speed as Wales captain. Johnson and Speed both retired from international football before John Toshack became Wales manager.
"I would give the captaincy to Robbie. Sav rarely misses a game and he is great around the place," Johnson said.
However, Toshack has criticised Savage in the past in his role as a media pundit and Aston Villa defender Mark Delaney is thought to be favourite.
An announcement of who will be the new Wales skipper is expected in the next few days.
Johnson feels that Birmingham midfielder Savage has all the qualities needed to lead his country.
"He wears his heart on his sleeve, is a very passionate Welshman and I couldn't think of anyone better to follow in Gary Speed's footsteps," Johnson added.

"It is not my decision but I think he would thrive in that role. It would give him some responsibility and I think he would grow as a player if he was given that.
"He is playing well for Birmingham and is also one of their top scorers, which I'm sure he is reminding people about."
Johnson, who has been in fine form in recent weeks, insisted he will not be making himself available for his country again.
He added: "I made my decision and now the dust has settled on it, I feel it was the right decision.
"My decision was made before John (Toshack) took over as manager and I wish him all the best.
"He has not spoken to me about changing my mind. I just phoned him and wished him all the best when he took over.
"If he did approach me, I wouldn't change my decision. I'm happy with my decision."
