Beckham included in England squad
SPAIN v ENGLAND
David Beckham and Sven-Goran Eriksson
Venue: Bernabeu Stadium, Madrid
Kick-off: 2045 GMT, Wednesday 17 November

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has named captain David Beckham in his squad for the friendly against Spain.

The Real Madrid midfielder has not played since cracking a rib against Wales in October's World Cup qualifier but is expected to start on Wednesday.

Wayne Bridge, who missed the games with Wales and Azerbaijan, is back alongside Matthew Upson and Chris Kirkland.

But Ledley King and Sol Campbell were ruled out through injury, while there is no place for Kieron Dyer.

Beckham and Real team-mate Michael Owen will be playing on their home ground and Eriksson expects both to relish that prospect.

"It is nice to have David back with us after his injury. I'm sure he and Michael will be especially motivated for this game," he told the Football Association's official website.

"I'm delighted that Michael has found his goalscoring form at Real Madrid.

"He has shown his determination to be successful there and I never doubted that he would do well."

Eriksson is also confident his side will cope with the absence of Campbell and King.

"We are lucky to have many excellent players in central defence with Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Jamie Carragher and Matthew Upson coming back in now too. All of them are top, top players," the Swede added.

"Also Wayne Bridge has come back from injury which gives us some interesting options on the left side."

England squad:

Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson (Tottenham Hotspur), David James (Manchester City), Chris Kirkland (Liverpool)
Defenders: Ashley Cole (Arsenal), Matthew Upson (Birmingham City), Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), John Terry (Chelsea), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United) Gary Neville (Manchester United)
Midfielders: Phil Neville (Manchester United), Jermaine Jenas (Newcastle United), David Beckham (Real Madrid), Owen Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Nicky Butt (Newcastle United), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City)
