Sunderland's Stephen Elliott is in line to make his Republic of Ireland debut in the friendly against Croatia on 16 November at Lansdowne Road. Elliott is included as one of four strikers in the 25-man squad named by manager Brian Kerr on Monday.
He replaces Clinton Morrison who lost his fitness race to be included.
The Birmingham striker picked up a knee injury while on international duty for Ireland against France last month and has been sidelined since then.
However, Elliott has impressed hugely at the Stadium of Light recently following his summer move from Manchester City having scored eight goals in 10 games.
Celtic youngster Aidan McGeady has also earned a call up following a series of consistent performances for Martin O'Neil's side.
Former Leeds full-back Ian Harte is still out in the cold despite his recent good form for Spanish outfit Levante in La Liga.
Manchester United skipper Roy Keane is being rested by Kerr.
