The process to appoint a new Wales manager took a step forward on Thursday following a Football Association of Wales management committee meeting. BBC Sport believes a shortlist of five candidates was drawn up, with Dick Advocaat a new name to emerge.
John Toshack, Gerard Houllier, Ian Rush and Brian Flynn will also be approached now to see if they are interested.
The FAW's David Collins said he hoped the committee will recommend a new manager to the FAW council next month.
"The committee will consider all the candidates it wishes to interview," added Collins, the FAW secretary general, after Thursday's meeting in Cardiff.
Toshack, who had two spells in charge of Real Madrid, is understood to have the support of the majority of the committee.
But former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier is also thought to have some support, as do Rush and Flynn.
Advocaat resigned as Netherlands coach after a semi-final loss to Portugal at Euro 2004.
Ironically, he was recently linked with the Blackburn Rovers job before the Premiership club persuaded Mark Hughes end his five-year managerial reign with Wales.
Now the hard work begins of approaching those candidates and finding out if they are interested in the terms the FAW has to offer.
So far, former Wrexham and Swansea manager Flynn and former Tranmere boss John Aldridge are the only ones to confirm they want the job
Collins remained silent on any potential shortlist, saying only that the FAW had received "a considerable number of applications" with a "wide range of experience".
