Wales defender Ben Thatcher has been banned for three international matches by Fifa's disciplinary committee. The Manchester City left-back was found guilty of stamping on Poland's Kamil Kosowski during October's 2006 World Cup qualifier in Cardiff.
Thatcher, who was also fined nearly 3,500, will miss Wales' Group Six double-header with Austria in March and the home qualifier against England.
The Football Association of Wales has until the end of the week to appeal.
Poland reported the incident to Fifa, world football's governing body, after reviewing the match at the Millennium Stadium.
"Fortunately Kosowski didn't get a serious injury, because at first sight it looked like he could get damage of the skull and ear," said team doctor Jerzy Grzywocz last October.
