Beckham admitted he deliberately got booked against Wales |
Sven-Goran Eriksson has urged David Beckham to think twice before admitting to any on-the-field indiscretions. The England midfielder has come under fire for revealing that he deliberately got booked against Wales.
But Eriksson is backing his captain, insisting: "I think he thought about what was best for England."
The England coach did issue a mild rebuke to the player, however, saying: "David should think that talking is silver, but being quiet is golden."
The Football Association has yet to rule on whether Beckham brought the game into disrepute by revealing he fouled Ben Thatcher to invoke a suspension he could serve while injured.
But Eriksson believes the scenario is nothing new.
"How many times have you seen a footballer taking a yellow card because he doesn't want to play the next game?" said the Swede.
Beckham has since apologised for his actions but is not yet in the clear.
Eriksson insists the episode "is finished" but admitted: "I don't know whether Fifa and the FA are going to do anything".
