 | MOLDOVA v SCOTLAND |
Former Scotland stars John Collins and Ally McCoist have joined the clamour calling for national manager Berti Vogts to resign. "This proves there is no progress being made," Collins told BBC Sport after the 1-1 draw in Moldova.
"And if there is no progress, there has to be changes."
McCoist told the Daily Record: "I was embarrassed with a performance that had nothing to do with what I thought my country and its football was about."
Collins believes ex-Coventry and Southampton boss Gordon Strachan must be approached to replace Vogts.
"In my opinion, the man sticking out (to replace Vogts) is Gordon Strachan," Collins added.
"He has worked for two clubs in his managerial career with inferior squads to the opposition but he has managed to get those so-called weaker squads to over-perform and that is what is needed with the Scotland squad now.
"He took Southampton to their highest-ever finish in his last job and to the FA Cup final.

"He can rejuvenate players and get them playing for each other, organised and motivated." The ex-Fulham, Everton, Monaco, Celtic and Hibs midfielder is adamant the time has come for the Scottish Football Association to end Vogts two-and-a-half year reign.
"I think this is the end of the road," he continued.
"He has had a hard time, he's had a difficult job and not a lot of talent to work with.
Collins also believes Vogts does not have the necessary language skills to get a point across to his players.
He said: "The biggest problem from the start has been communication.
"His English has no doubt improved but, from day one, his English was very poor.
"When you are dealing with average players, one thing you have to do is get into their minds and motivate them."
McCoist, who scored 19 goals in 61 Scotland appearances, also wants a new man in charge.
He added: "We have joked about Scotland for years but this goes beyond anything I have ever seen.
"Where was the spirit? Where was the passion? Why have we just been fortunate to get away with a point from Moldova?
"If there are answers to these questions, then Vogts doesn't have them and he must go - now."
Another former international, Pat Nevin, believes former Rangers and Everton manager Walter Smith might be the man to replace Vogts.
"Berti has had time and things haven't worked out," Nevin told BBC Sport.
"I think Walter Smith could come in for a couple of years and perhaps help blood a younger man like Craig Levein or Jim Duffy.
"Walter has the respect of players, the public and the media.
"Gordon Strachan may be the fans favourite but the SFA may want to avoid such a firey, outspoken character."
