Wales

Paul Jones - 6: Was virtually a spectator after Northern Ireland were reduced to nine men in the 22nd minute but had to look sharp in stopping a goalbound Tony Capaldi shot.

Mark Delaney - 5: Busied himself throughout without really stamping his authority on the game.

James Collins - 5: Looked nervous at the start but settled down, although his slip allowed David Healy to score.

Danny Gabbidon - 7: Did everything that was asked of him, although he was lucky to get away with flooring Capaldi in the penalty box.

Ben Thatcher- 6: Was busy all night and was at the centre of most of the Welsh moves down the left flank.

John Oster - 6: Worked hard in a rare start in front of his home fans without setting the world alight.

Gary Speed - 5: Had a quiet game when Wales needed his experience to get into a rhythm to attack nine-man Northern Ireland.

Robbie Savage - 3: Lasted only nine minutes when he was upended by Michael Hughes and a retaliatory push saw him red-carded by Italian referee Domenico Messina.

Jason Koumas - 6: Did all he could to get Wales motivated. Had a great shot saved by Maik Taylor but tired in the final quarter.

Craig Bellamy - 6: Started and finished well but tried to win the game by himself in the second half. Nearly set up winner for Collins.

John Hartson - 6: Was his bustling self in the box and took his goal brilliantly to get Wales back in the game.

Substitutes

Robert Earnshaw (replaced Mark Delaney, 28 mins) - 7:(STAR MAN) Was a real handful when he came on in the first half and headed a brilliant equaliser for his eighth international goal.

Paul Parry (replaced Ben Thatcher, 63 mins) - 5: Tried hard but failed to make much of an impact on the left.

Northern Ireland

Maik Taylor - 8: Back to his old self after a poor game against Poland and gave his defence bags of confidence with confident handling.

Mark Clyde - 7: An industrious game, and like most defenders earned his spurs during the waves of Welsh attacks.

Mark Williams - 6: Non-stop running and tracking back helped a heroic defence that was creaking at the seams at times.

Aaron Hughes - 6: Continually in the thick of the action clearing the incessant Welsh attacks but visibly tired near the end.

Colin Murdock - 8: The Hibs man played his socks off for the whole 90 minutes with some timely interceptions and clearances.

Tony Capaldi - 8: (STAR MAN): Looked a class act as he fetched and carried the whole game, and showed excellent qualities on the break.

Damien Johnson - 6: Like the rest of the Northern Ireland midfield he had to be content with defensive chores which he did well.

Jeff Whitley - 6 : Scored a cracking opening goal but spent the rest of his time helping stem the Welsh attack.

Michael Hughes - 3: A bad tackle on Robbie Savage saw the Crystal Palace midfielder sent off when he got involved in a pushing match with the Birmingham player.

James Quinn - 6: Ran and hustled all night until he ran out of steam and was replaced in the 57th minute.

David Healy - 4: Was bizarrely sent off after receiving two yellow cards following his over-enthusiastic goal celebrations in the 22nd minute.

Substitutes

Andy Smith (replaced James Quinn, 57 mins) - 5: Looked slightly out of his depth when he was asked to play deep but hustled well.

Paul McVeigh (replaced Andy Smith, 89 mins) - Not on long enough to make an impact.

George McCartney (replaced Tony Capaldi, 90 mins) - Not on long enough to make an impact.
