Manager Lawrie Sanchez admitted his Northern Ireland side had given away the three goals which sent them crashing to defeat against Poland. "I am disappointed that all three goals were preventable," said Sanchez after Saturday's World Cup qualifying opener.
"If we had done better on those we would have given ourselves a better chance in the game.
"There was a lot of work I was pleased with but it is all about end product at this level."
Sanchez said he always knew it was going to be a difficult game.
"Poland are 80 places above us in the Fifa rankings and will be disappointed if they do not finish at least second in the group," added Sanchez.
"We were the authors of our own misfortune to an extent by giving away that first goal from a corner. There was a misunderstanding between the front post man and the goalkeeper which was disapointing.
"We could not finish like them. The difference in this group will be the quality of the finishing." Northern Ireland winger Stuart Elliott said the players were disappointed for the fans.
""They are fantastic. Even when we are down they keep singing," said the Hull City man.
"We will get our heads up again, we are professionals and will be looking to the Wales game now.
"In football anything can happen and we can go there and get three points.
"It was a killer to concede a goal so early on, it just flattened the place. If we had not conceded that, things could have been so different."
Poland manager Pawel Janas was delighted with the victory ahead of the England game on Wednesday.
"I was thrilled with they we played," he said.
"It was a promising show but we know England will be tough opponents.
"We hope to finish second at least in the group. Apart from England, the teams are evenly matched."
