Darlington 0 - 2 York

York City overcame Blue Square Premier rivals Darlington to reach the FA Cup third round.

Djoumin Sangare put the visitors ahead when he picked up Michael Rankine's flick-on and steered the ball past Darlington goalkeeper Sam Russell.

The Quakers came close to equalising with five minutes remaining but James Meredith headed Michael Brough's fierce shot over the bar.

But Ashley Chambers tapped in York's second in injury-time to seal the win.

Darlington boss Mark Cooper tells BBC Tees:
"We started pretty well, even first half, but we didn't defend the long ball properly and they get in and score a goal, and from then on we're chasing the game.

"One of your centre-halves has to head it, and the other needs to drop off, and if they'd have done that then it wouldn't have happened.

"The difference between the two teams was the two players up front, and they had Michael Rankine, who was a real handful and we didn't have any punch up front until Liam Hatch went up there."

York City manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio York:

"I'm going to enjoy tonight, I'm going to enjoy tomorrow and I'm going to sit there at 6 o'clock like everybody else connected with York and look forward to it.

"Our cup final was today.

"To get to the third round, a conference club, is magnificent. We're there, we've done it."
