Matthew Tipton netted the only goal as Blue Square North side Droylsden beat League Two leaders Darlington to book a place in the FA Cup second round.
Late on, the match was stopped for more than half an hour after Liam Hatch suffered a neck injury in a clash with team-mate Gregg Blundell.
Droyslden got their winner when Tipton converted Neil Prince's cross.
Hatch and Alan White both missed good chances to equalise for Darlington as the visitors responded.
Darlington boss Dave Penney on Hatch's injury, which was initially thought to be a broken neck but later X-rays revealed there was no break:
"It was a nasty collision and he looked to have hurt his neck considerably.
"The physiotherapist couldn't determine the extent of the injury straight away but he has now gone to the hospital to make sure he is OK.
"Nobody wants to see that happen and we hope it isn't that bad. Getting back to the game we weren't at the races and we played into their hands throughout.
"We played too many long balls and with the level they play at they are used to that type of football but we never adjusted things."
