Chris Shuker's second-half strike ensured Tranmere saw off Accrington in their FA Cup replay and set up a second-round clash with Peterborough.
Both teams struggled to create chances in what was a tentative first half.
The home side broke the deadlock when Shuker, put through by Steven Jennings, curled the ball beyond Kenny Arthur for his fifth goal of the season.
A minute prior to the midfielder's goal Accrington had hit the post via a James Ryan free-kick.
