Ashton boss Lowe thanks Valiants

FA Cup

Curzon Ashton manager Gary Lowe has thanked Port Vale for the video which helped them achieve FA Cup first round giant-killing success.

Curzon beat League Two high-fliers Exeter 3-2 on Saturday to land a second-round tie at Kidderminster.

Lowe told BBC Radio Manchester: "We can't thank Port Vale enough. They sent us a video of their game with Exeter and we studied it and studied it.

"We thought they would play a four-five-one formation and they did."

The boss of the Unibond First Division North club added: "We thought if they do that, we can match them up and we felt we would get chances, it's just an unbelievable feeling to have got through.

We were just praying we would be lucky enough and the last five minutes felt like about 20 years!

"Someone asked me if it was the best day of my managerial career, I said 'well, yeah but it hasn't been a particularly successful one anyway!'

"When we had gone 3-0 up I thought it was all over and I could relax and enjoy the last 20 minutes.

"Then they scored a goal and one of their kids scored an absolute screamer, all of a sudden I couldn't speak any more.

"From there we were just praying we would be lucky enough and the last five minutes felt like about twenty years!"
