John McCombe and Theo Robinson were on target as Hereford secured their place in the FA Cup third tound. McCombe opened the scoring in first half stoppage time, converting Kris Taylor's free-kick for his first goal of the season.
Sam Gwynne cleared a header off the line as Hartlepool pressed for an equaliser in the second half.
But with five minutes remaining, Robinson raced free and fired home from 20 yards for his seventh of the season.
