Ainsworth struck a deserved winner against a below-par Leeds side |
Lionel Ainsworth's third-minute strike was enough to see League Two Hereford shock Leeds of League One in their FA Cup first-round replay at Elland Road. It was well-deserved and Hereford could have won by a bigger margin had they taken all of their chances.
They made a perfect start as Ainsworth took a step and stroked home, while Theo Robinson missed more good chances.
Leeds' best chance in a lacklustre display was a Tresor Kandol header that was cleared after Wayne Brown fumbled.
But, in truth, the hosts deserved little from the tie against an effervescent Bulls side.
Robinson squandered a string of clear opportunities, including a one-on-one that keeper Casper Ankergren managed to smother in the first half.
Ainsworth and Robinson both went close again in the second 45, while visiting keeper Brown coped well with Jermaine Beckford's fierce close-range drive.
Hereford will now host League One's Hartlepool in the second round.
