GOALFLASHES AND MAJOR INCIDENTS (all times GMT)

By Ian Hughes

1908:FULL-TIME: Manchester United 1-1 Reading
Reading hang on for a spirited draw and a well-earned replay. There were plenty of nervy moments at the end but Brynjar Gunnarsson's fine header rewards the Royals with a home tie against the Premiership leaders.

1906: A last-gasp chance to win the tie for Louis Saha and he's blown it. It fell on his weaker foot, but from inside the box, practically clean-through, he should have dumped Reading out.

1904: Stephen Hunt goes on a lung-busting run that helps run down the clock. Reading aren't in a hurry and Sir Alex Ferguson does not look a happy chappy on the bench.

1902: There's some tired and weary legs out there now, none more so than in the Reading defence. The Royals bring on some fresh legs in Glen Little with Seol Ki-Hyeon coming on. Time running out with United doing all the pressing now.

1900: Reading make another change and this time it's a forced substitution. John Oster hobbles off with Sam Sodje coming on for the final few minutes.

1858: Manchester United's turn now and Henrik Larsson tip-toes round the keeper and cuts back for Louis Saha, but for a fortunate touch from Ivar Ingimarsson, United would surely have been ahead.

1856: It's end-to-end now and Reading come forward next with Wes Brown clearing off the line from John Oster. The game is so wide open now it's making for a thrilling end to the weekend's cup ties.

1854: What a save from Adam Federici! Henrik Larsson's half-volley looked to have found the net before Federici scrambled across and tipped the chance round the post.

1852: Not a good couple of minutes for Nemanja Vidic, first an embarrassing blunder, now a yellow card to his name. It was late, it was messy and it ended up with Steven Sidwell in a heap on the deck.

1850: A moment of hesitation from Nemanja Vidic hands Dave Kitson a half chance. The ginger striker nips in but can only squeeze his shot just wide of Tomasz Kuszcak's post.

1847: Alex Ferguson obviously doesn't want a replay. Here comes Paul Scholes, Henrik Larsson and Patrice Evra. Off go Ji-Sung Park, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Gabriel Heinze. They've now got 17 minutes to avoid a trip to the Madejski.

1845: Here comes the Reading change that Steve Coppell had been threatening for the last 10 minutes. Stephen Hunt replaces Bobby Convey on the left wing as Reading sense a winner.

1841:GOAL: Manchester United 1-1 Reading
Would you believe it, Reading are back in it! Just when you thought there was no way back for Steve Coppell's side, Brynjar Gunnarsson towers above the United defence and powers home a header that creeps under the bar. Superb header and Reading have a lifeline.

1839: It's all Manchester United now and Ronaldo goes close to securing United's passage to the next round. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plays a delightful ball across field and Ronaldo drives wide from distance.

1837: Best chance of the match. Ronaldo ghosts through the Reading defence after Park Ji-Sung's precise through-ball and somehow fires wide from five yards out. Credit the keeper Adam Federici though, he stood tall and just about did enough to put the winger off.

1835: Ki-Hyeon Seol makes his into the referee's book. It was a lazy, tired challenge on Gabriel Heinze and the ref had no other alternative.

1832: I shouldn't think Manchester United will fall for the long ball tactic too often, yet Reading seem intent on hoofing it up to the lone striker Dave Kitson.

1829: It's subdued inside the Theatre of Dreams at the moment, and if Reading don't up the pace this half, their cup dreams will be cut short.

1826: Ivar Ingimarsson almost gets himself on the scoresheet - at the wrong end though. Ronaldo's low shot deflects of the lofty centre back and drifts narrowly wide.

1819: United get the match restarted. Neither side have made any changes.

1804: Carrick's inspiration proves to be the less act of a largely uninspiring half and United go into the break a goal to the good. Reading will have to change their tactics now and be a bit more adventurous.

1803: GOAL Man Utd 1-0 Reading
Michael Carrick produces a moment of brilliance - not in keeping with the first half - to smash a low shot into the left corner from 25 yards.

1759: Or maybe not if the shooting remains of the calibre of Nicky Shorey's volleyed effort, which is easily collected by Tomasz Kuszczak. To be fair, it wasn't the easiest chance.

1758: Back at the Reading end, Andre Bikey makes a strong challenge to deny Louis Saha from pulling the trigger. There must be goals in this game.

1756: Incisive play from Reading fashions their best chance of the game. John Oster plays in Ulises De La Cruz, who stabs the ball wide of the post.

1754: Between them, Louis Saha and Ji-Sung Park manage to make a mess of a counter-attack. Saha does well to create the oportunity but Park's hesitation costs him and he plays the ball back to Saha, who is closed down.

1751: Another shot comes in from United, this time from Louis Saha. It lacks both the power and precision to trouble Adam Federici.

1748: Ji-Sung Park's shot is blocked by Ulises De la Cruz as the South Korean threatens to make a breakthrough.

1745: It cannot have affected Saha too much as he beats two players on a mazy run but his momentum makes it too hard for him to control his shot.

1742: Even worse to have someone stub their toe on your head - as happens to Louis Saha, who feels the force of Andre Bikey's boot.

1740: Probably not a good idea to stub your toe just as you take a 35-yard free-kick. But that's what happens to Ronaldo and unsurprisingly the resultant shot is a bit of an embarrassment.

1734: Ronaldo turns on the tricks, but this time it's deep in his own half as he does well to intercept Steve Sidwell's pass out wide and get United moving forward again.

1731: A quarter of an hour gone and Reading will be pleased with how they have begun. United look a little laboured and are being pushed back by the visitors.

1726: Andre Bikey toe pokes the ball against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's shin as a cross comes in from the left. Luckily for Reading, keeper Adam Federici is alert enough to make the save.

1723: Reading push all three centre-backs up for a corner. A waste of time as the delivery does not even beat the first man.

1721: Louis Saha shows a sharp eye to spot Ji-Sung Park's darting run but the South Korean's finish doesn't match his movement.

1718: Cristiano Ronaldo wastes little time in imposing himself on the game, galloping down the left wing and almost delivering his cross. In the warm-up, the Portuguese winger was performing ball tricks that would leave most people's limbs more twisted than a plate of spaghetti.

1716: Reading kick off at Old Trafford as Saturday's final FA cup tie gets started.

1702 TEAM NEWS:Manchester United leave out Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Henrik Larsson but recall Cristiano Ronaldo. Reading also shuffle their starting line-up, making six changes in all.

1655: And it's full-time at Plymouth, where they overcome Derby to make it through to the FA Cup sixth round.

1653: It is all over at Vicarage Road, where Watford knock out Ipswich after a late goal. Chelsea run out convincing winners against Norwich, while Middlesbrough and West Brom draw.

1652: GOAL Chelsea 4-0 Norwich
Andriy Shevchenko
has the final say, heading in powerfully to seal Chelsea's victory.

1649: GOAL Chelsea 3-0 Norwich
Michael Essien
adds the finishing touch to good work from Andriy Shevchenko, tapping in the Ukrainian's cross from the left.

1648: SENDING OFF West Brom's Curtis Davies is dismissed after being booked for a second time.

1646: GOAL Watford 1-0 Ipswich
Watford finally break Ipswich's stubborn resistance as Damien Francis meets Tommy Smith's low centre and converts with ease.

1645: GOAL Plymouth 2-0 Derby
Scott Sinclair clinically heads in David Norris' cross to end Derby's hopes of a comeback.

1640: Boro's James Morrison lets fly with a curling shot from the left of the box but Dean Kiely is equal to it and makes a tremendous save.

1639: Norwich substitute Chris Martin had made a difference, turning up his sides' cold play to a more dangerous temperature. It's hardly all Yellow but the Canaries are making a game of it.

1637: And Norwich are refusing to lay down at Stamford Bridge. Lee Croft volleys a shot against the bar and then holds his head in hands in dismay.

1630: As things currently stand, three Championship sides from the four 1500 kick-offs will survive to fight another day in the FA Cup. Plymouth are in a strong position, West Brom have pegged back Boro twice and 10-man Ipswich are holding Watford. Who says there are no Cup upsets anymore?

1627: SENDING OFF Derby are down to 10 men as Darren Moore is shown a second yellow card for a tackle from behind on Kevin Gallen. At least Derby's chances of conceding another penalty have reduced as a result.

1625: After a flurry of action, the last 10 minutes have been relatively quiet. There remains the chance of three upsets this afternoon.

1617: GOAL Middlesbrough 2-2 West Brom
Kevin Phillips takes aim from the edge of the box and his shot deflects off Andrew Taylor and past Mark Schwarzer.

1615: Ipswich think they have taken the lead as Dan Harding's shot hits the under side of the bar and Danny Haynes heads home the rebound but they are denied by the offside flag.

1609: A great chance for West Brom but Paul McShane blasts over from six yards after good work by Jason Koumas.

1609: GOAL Chelsea 2-0 Norwich
The ball breaks to Didier Drogba in the area and, from only a couple of yards, out he swivels and volleys the ball in.

1608: Roman Abramovich is in attendance at a Chelsea match for the first time in six matches. Norwich are being watched by Delia Smith. I doubt the pair have swapped gifts of vodka and home-made tucker. Chelsea wouldn't want a booze-fuelled Delia on the pitch, ranting "let's be having you".

1605: Lagging just a little behind the other afternoon kick-offs, Plymouth and Derby recommence battle.

1603: The action resumes at Vicarage Road and at Chelsea. West Brom restart their match against Boro.

1550: It's also the end of the first half at Plymouth and Watford.

1548: It is half-time at The Riverside, and at Stamford Bridge.

1546: SENDING OFF: Ipswich's George O'Callaghan is given his marching orders, on his full debut.

He landed with Danny Shittu after the pair challenged for a high ball, and referee Steve Bennett felt O'Callaghan's trailing leg, which caught the Watford defender was deliberate, although it seemed harsh.

1544: GOAL Middlesbrough 2-1 West Brom
Ayegbeni Yakubu is upended by Curtis Davies to win a penalty and then converts it with an assured side-foot shot into the right-hand corner.

1541: GOAL Middlesbrough 1-1 West Brom
Diomansy Kamara gets the Baggies back on level terms with the help of Boro keeper Mark Schwarzer, who watches in horror as the striker's speculative shot squirms under his body.

1538: GOAL Chelsea 1-0 Norwich
Shaun Wright-Phillips sends a volley goalwards from the edge of the box and a deflection off a Norwich defender leaves keeper Paul Gallacher stranded.

1533: MISSED PENALTY
Kevin Gallen's kick is saved by Stephen Bywater, who dives to his right to parry. It is a massive relief for Darren Moore, who conceded the penalty - as well as the previous one which Gallen scored from.

1529: GOAL Middlesbrough 1-0 West Brom Stewart Downing floats a teasing cross to the back post and an unmarked Julio Arca thumps a header in. It comes just minutes after West Brom's Kevin Phillips had a goal ruled out for offside.

1527: Player rater results: From the early FA Cup tie of the day, you have rated Blackburn keeper Brad Friedel man of the match so far. Not that there were many decent candidates to choose from!

1523: David Jones' curling free-kick almost brings Derby back into the game at Home Park. It lands on the roof of the net and is the Rams' first sight of goal after a jittery start.

1522: Boro's Emanuel Pogatetz has a header cleared off the line. The hosts are edging the match, but the play is scrappy on the whole.

1517: Norwich are taking the game to Chelsea and almost open the scoring as Dickson Etuhu crashes a shot against the post.

1515: GOAL Plymouth 1-0 Derby
Kevin Gallen puts his side in front from the spot after drawing the foul which led to it.

1514: Ipswich almost open the scoring when Sylvain Legwinski sets his sights from 25 yards and his shot cannons back off the cross-bar.

1510: The Stamford Bridge pitch is in a diabolical state and Norwich keeper David Marshall becomes of a victim of it, twisting his ankle and he is forced to go off. He is replaced by Paul Gallacher.

1508: Middlesbrough's Julio Arca splits the West Brom defence with a precise pass but Stewart Downing's cross-shot flashes wide of the upright.

1503: Plymouth get their tie against Derby under way.

1501: Two more kick off, at Chelsea and Middlesbrough.

1500: And the action begins at Vicarage Road, where Watford start the ball rolling against Championship opponents Ipswich.

1459: We're just a minute away from four more FA Cup fifth-round ties kicking off.

1458: Marcel Seip returns to the Plymouth defence after a suspension but midfielder Akos Buzsaky (hamstring) and full-back Tony Capaldi (groin) are not risked. Out-of-favour Derby midfielder Seth Johnson returns in Matt Oakley's place. Morten Bisgaard replaces Gary Teale in midfield but Jon Macken starts from the bench

1456:Watford bring in Richard Lee, Danny Shittu and Chris Powell for Ben Foster, Malky Mackay and Jordan Stewart. Ipswich start with Chris Casement, George O'Callaghan, Matt Richards, Gary Roberts and Danny Haynes instead of Fabian Wilnis, Owen Garvan, Darren Currie, Gary Walters and Billy Clarke.

1452: Khalid Boulahrouz returns to the centre of the Chelsea defence after six weeks out, Arjen Robben and Shaun Wright-Phillips also start but Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Essien drop to the bench. Norwich make one change - Simon Lappin replaces Jurgen Colin.

1443:Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate restores Mark Viduka and Jonathan Woodgate to his line-up, with Julio Arca and Adam Johnson also in the starting XI. Former Boro skipper Tony Mowbray makes three changes to his West Brom side, with Jonathan Greening, Kevin Phillips and Jason Koumas all starting.

1424: With both sides involved in European football, a replay is another fixture they could have done without. So why have they played out one of the most hesitant stalemates? The full-time whistle blows, and thank goodness for that.

1420: David Dunn takes the ball into the corner to waste the final seconds. He is then replaced by Andy Todd.

1416: All the goalmouth incident that has been missing from the game is squeezed into five seconds! Thierry Henry is denied by an amazing fingertip save from Brad Friedel, who springs up immediately to somehow deny Justin Hoyte.

1413: But it is an Arsenal sub who nearly makes the breakthrough as Thomas Rosicky is denied by Brad Freidel's outstretched left leg.

1412: Blackburn replace Shabani Nonda with Jason Roberts.

1410: Dogged persistence on the left flank takes Gael Clichy into box. He ruins his good work by passing the ball into space.

1405: Stephen Warnock mistimes his challenge and clearly trips Jermeie Aliadiere in the area but the referee rules, wrongly, it isn't a penalty. But even had Arsenal won a spot-kick, the odds on them scoring would have been long. Did you see the two efforts on Wednesday? They are still on their way to the moon.

Anyway, play continues and Thierry Henry collects the ball in the area, swivels and the sends the ball high over the bar.

1403: From nothing, Matt Derbyshire hooks a volley goalwards from 25 yards and it is only kept out by a combination of Manuel Almunia's fingertips and the Arsenal cross bar.

1400: We're into the final 20 minutes. It is hard to see how either team will be able to shake off their lethargy. A replay on 28 February beckons.

1357: Arsenal substitutions: Enmmanuel Adebayor for Theo Walcott and Thomas Rosicky for Freddie Ljungberg. Blackburn substitution: Matt Derbyshire for Bruno Berner.

1352: David Bentley floats a free-kick into the box, the ball is headed goalwards but eventually hacked clear by Kolo Toure.

1349: Arsenal replace William Gallas with Gael Clichy. Gallas could hardly have had a gentler return to action after injury - but after an hour, he is taken off to recuperate.

1346: An injection of pace - finally - ends in Theo Walcott shooting just wide of the upright.

1344: A rare shot on goal as Thierry Henry takes aim from the edge of the box. There is no power in it and Brad Friedel gathers with ease.

1342: Blackburn are being forced on to the back foot but are soaking up the pressure comfortably. It has been a solid defensive display so far from the visitors.

1337: No change in the quality or tempo (lack of?) so far. Cesc Fabregas takes a tumble on the edge of Rovers' area but his appeals for a free-kick are waved away.

1334: And we're off again.

1333: The teams emerge from the tunnel after the break. Given the energy that was conserved in the first half, the second 45 minutes should be played at a lightning-quick pace.

1318: The first half finishes and we can all go and do something less boring instead - for 15 minutes. Surely the second half has to be better than this.

1317: William Gallas takes a shot and maybe wishes he hadn't after ballooning it off target.

1315: Arsenal win a free-kick 30 yards out. Thierry Henry drives the ball into a cluster of players in the box, and the ball is cleared.

1313: David Dunn is cautioned for persistent fouling. I hadn't even realised the game was being played in a competitive spirit. Walking pace, more like.

1311: The chips have arrived and the tempting smell is even more frustrating than this match. I should have got some, seeing as there isn't much to write about the game at the moment. I might nick a few from someone else at half-time.

1308: Rovers start to string some passes together until David Dunn punts the ball out of play while under no pressure. Fairly typical of the afternoon so far, really.

1303: Freddie Ljungberg breaks the monotony, momentarily, as he sprints down the line only for his cross to be well blocked by Zurab Khizanishvili.

1258: Arsenal are moving into the ascendancy but without creating any clear-cut chances. Both sides are playing well within their capabilities. It's certainly not a thriller.... yet (here's hoping!).

1252: From Thierry Henry's free-kick, Theo Walcott tries an ambitious flick which takes a deflection and loops into the grateful arms of Brad Friedel.

1246: Rovers are on the defensive but three players fail to dispossess Thierry Henry, who tricks his way into the box but cannot find a team-mate with his centre.

1244: David Bentley tries his luck from range, sending a wild shot high and wide from 30 yards.

1242: Jeremie Aliadiere almost bursts through the Rovers defence, but the ball is nicked away from him in the area.

1237: The first chance of the game falls to Thierry Henry - and it is a good one. Justin Hoyte dinks the ball into the area but Henry volleys over the bar when he perhaps should have hit the target.

1236: The first five minutes have gone by without major incident. Both sides are feeling their way into the game and the pace is unusually slow.

The tempo is bound to pick up though, so I've opted not to join in the fish and chips round to avoid indigestion.

1231: Blackburn get the match under way.

1230: There is bright sunshine covering half the pitch at the Emirates Stadium, which looks less than packed.

Fans might be expecting a high-scoring encounter, with Rovers netting four goals in each of their previous FA Cup matches this season and Arsenal also in free-scoring form.

1210: The fifth round of the FA Cup is just 20 minutes away from kicking off.

The last time Arsenal and Blackburn faced each other in this competition was in the 2005 season when Arsenal won 3-0 at the Millennium Stadium.

TEAM NEWS

Arsenal make nine changes as skipper Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas, William Gallas and Freddie Ljungberg are all recalled. Only Kolo Toure and goalkeeper Manuel Almunia keep their places from Wednesday's night's fourth-round replay win at Bolton as Theo Walcott is given another run and Jeremie Aliadiere takes over from Emmanuel Adebayor.

Blackburn recall new signings Bruno Berner and Christopher Samba, while Shabani Nonda - who came on to score against Bayer Leverkusen in the Uefa Cup on Wednesday - and defender Zurab Khizanishvili are promoted from the bench.
