Coventry 0-2 Bristol City
Enoch Showunmi
Showunmi scored one and made one as the Robins eased through
League One side Bristol City eased into the fourth round of the FA Cup to pile more misery on beleaguered Coventry manager Micky Adams.

Scott Murray's superb curling shot put City ahead before the break after fine hold-up play from Enoch Showunmi.

And Showunmi doubled the visitors' lead soon after the interval, when he headed in Lee Johnson's fine cross.

The Sky Blues created little in attack with Kevin Kyle and Stern John wasting their best chances.

Neither side threatened much in the final third in the opening half an hour but Coventry provided the first effort on goal when John's near post backheel was easily smothered by Adriano Basso.

Kyle then smashed a shot over the bar after some fine approach play involving Tabb and Leon McKenzie.

The hosts also forced a series of corners but Gary Johnson's side started to get on top and the warning signs were there when Showunmi blazed a shot over from six yards.

Murray also fired a shot straight at Luke Steele on the half-hour mark before he broke the deadlock with his eighth goal of the season.

Showunmi held up the play on the right wing before rolling the ball infield to Murray, whose shot from a central position on the edge of the area nestled in the bottom left-hand corner.

And Showumni made it 2-0 soon after the restart, powerfully heading home Johnson's cross.

With the crowd calling for Adams to resign, the Sky Blues brought on Dele Adebola and Chris Birchall for Kyle and Tabb but they never looked like getting back into the game.

Jennison Myrie-Williams spurned the chance to put the game out of Coventry's reach midway through the second half when he selfishly chose to shoot instead of playing a simple pass to the unmarked Murray.

At the other end Page headed over the crossbar and Basso produced a fine diving save to thwart McKenzie but City deservedly progressed to round four for the first time since 2001.

  • Bristol City boss Gary Johnson:
"We soon got our game going and never looked back.

"It's the nature of our beast that the lads were not overawed and we were never out of this tie, we knew that from the first game at Ashton Gate.

"The goals came at the right time. Scotty's was a cracking goal, a typical finish for him."
