Skipper Richie Barker converted a 44th-minute penalty to put Mansfield into the FA Cup second round draw. Barker shrugged off speculation about his future to beat keeper Ian Dunbavin, who saved two penalties in the League game at Field Mill in September.
Dunbavin had earlier saved from John Mullins and denied Michael Boulding and Chris Beardsley after the break.
Town keeper Carl Muggleton denied Danny Ventre and Ian Craney, who went close with two other chances.
