Milton's new claim to fame

Cheltenham midfielder Russell Milton's claim to fame used to be having played in the same side as Brazilian legend Socrates.

Journeyman Milton formed an unlikely central midfield partnership with Socrates for South China.

The 32-year-old had been released by Arsenal after failing to make it into the Gunners first-team, while Socrates was coming to the end of a career that had taken in a stint in Italy and two World Cups.

But Milton now has a new boast after scoring Cheltenham's first goal in the 2-1 win over Burnley in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

His strike set Cheltenham on their way to uncharted territory after they had previously failed to progress beyond the third round.

Milton admitted: "It's the greatest day in the club's history.

"It's a great achievement to beat a side like Burnley.

"We knew we had to get after them straight away, which we did, and then just held out after getting the goals.

"And I'll be ringing Socrates later to tell him!"

He grabbed the first goal for the Robins with a low, skimming free-kick.

"As soon as we were awarded the free-kick I fancied it and I caught their goalkeeper a bit cold, too.

"When the five minutes extra time came up, I thought, 'Oh no, here we go,' but we held on."

Milton has seen plenty of excitement in a career that began at Highbury and has taken him across to Hong Kong, Japan and China.

Robins boss Steve Cotterill said: "They put us under a fair bit of pressure in the latter part of the game and my heart stopped when five minutes extra time went up.

"But we suffered it and weathered the storm."

I've got no excuses, we were miles away from how we can perform
Stan Ternent
Burnley manager

For Burnley boss Stan Ternent it was an afternoon to forget.

"It was a very disappointing day and a very disappointing performance," he said.

"We didn't perform at all and Cheltenham fully deserved to go through.

"I've got no excuses, we were miles away from how we can perform.

"I don't mind losing, but it's how you lose and a lot of players were found wanting when it came to scrapping and battling."
