Cardiff City owner Sam Hammam has been banned from continuing his touchline walks during matches.

The decision was made following an investigation into the ugly scenes which marred Cardiff's 2-1 FA Cup win against Leeds United.

The Bluebirds' owner told BBC Five Live earlier in the week that he intended to stop walking around the pitch - and now the Welsh FA has banned him from carrying on with the practice.

He has been told to watch all future matches at Cardiff from the directors' box and not to step on to the pitch.

David Collins of the Football Association of Wales (FAW) said: "The FAW totally supports Cardiff City Council's approach to the safety certificate at the ground.

"The FAW directs Mr Hammam to restrict himself to the directors' box during matches, and immediately before and after matches."

Collins added that Cardiff and Leeds will have to wait until next week to hear if they are to face charges following the crowd trouble at the end of the third-round tie.

"The football associations of Wales and England deplore the acts of coin throwing that took place against the match officials at Ninian Park, and the pitch invasion.

Waiting game

Cardiff and Leeds will not find out if they are to face any disciplinary charges until next week.

Investigations are still being carried out into the circumstances of the disturbances.

Collins added: "The decision with regard to any disciplinary measures is still being considered and we are still gathering evidence."

Because the match was played in Wales, it is down to the FAW to decide whether to punish clubs or individuals.

The English FA, which is co-operating with the FAW's investigation and has also set up its own separate inquiry, can only act with regard to the FA Cup competition.

The FA could force Cardiff to play future 'home' cup games away from home or even sling them out of the competition altogether.
