Bayern lift the German Cup to complete an eighth Double

Bayern Munich stayed on course for the Treble after winning the German Cup with a crushing 4-0 victory over holders Werder Bremen in Berlin.

Arjen Robben's first-half penalty put Bayern ahead, with goals from Ivica Olic, Franck Ribery and Bastian Schweinsteiger completing the rout.

It was Bayern's 15th Cup victory and their eighth domestic Double.

Bundesliga champions Bayern face Inter Milan in the Champions League final on 22 May in Madrid's Bernabeu Stadium.

Before Robben's penalty, Bayern goalkeeper Hans-Joerg Butt made a double save, first denying Claudio Pizarro then Torsten Frings, before Aaron Hunt's third attempt on goal was deflected wide.

Defender Per Mertesacker's handball gave away the penalty, which was thumped home by Dutch winger Robben.

Early in the second half Germany international Mertesacker's header deflected into the path of Olic, who tapped in.

Ribery, who has long been linked with a move away from Bayern at the end of this season, added a third when he collected a Mark van Bommel pass and slotted home past keeper Tim Wiese.

Bremen then went down to 10 men when captain Frings was sent off after collecting a second yellow card for fouling Schweinsteiger.

And it was Schweinsteiger who completed the scoring, when he controlled the ball on his chest before firing in.

Ribery will be told on Wednesday by the Court of Arbitration for Sport if he can play against Inter, but if his appeal over a three-match Uefa ban fails, the French international has possibly played his last game for Bayern.
