Gannon said his Motherwell side deserved a draw in Albania
Motherwell manager Jim Gannon says his side deserved a draw after watching the 1-0 defeat by Flamurtari in the Europa League second qualifying round.
Striker John Sutton looked to have scored from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Bledion Guga.
But Austrian referee Fritz Stuchlik ordered a re-take after a home player encroached and Sutton's kick was saved.
"None of our players had encroached. So the referee needs to have a look at the rules," said Gannon.
The Motherwell manager said Shpetim Mocka's penalty save was the turning point in the game.
Ermir Strati put the Albanians in front in the 66th minute when his 20-yard strike beat Michael Fraser and went in off the post.
"We all felt the change in atmosphere after the decision and it seemed to harden their players and their focus," Gannon said. "But ultimately it was the goal that really lifted the crowd."
"It was difficult circumstances and preparations," Gannon said after a game played in searing heat and a three-hour bus ride to the stadium.
"I was pleased with the physical effort but I think we could have played better," he added.
"The travel and temperature were difficult but it was a great experience for our players."
Gannon is optimistic his side can turn the tie around at Airdrie's Excelsior Stadium next Thursday.
"I want us to play better and show us the qualities that give us the opportunities to score goals and win games," he said.
