Podolski scored two before limping off with a thigh injury late on
Bayern Munich cruised into the quarter-finals of the Champions League after they annihilated sorry Sporting.
Lucas Podolski scored a pile-driver and overhead kick for Bayern early on.
Anderson Polga's own goal increased the lead but Joao Moutinho rifled in from range for Sporting before Bastian Schweinsteiger stroked home for Bayern.
Captain Mark van Bommel poked home, Miroslav Klose added a penalty and Thomas Muller tapped in late on to complete the rout.
Bayern's 12-1 aggregate win set a new record for a Champions League knock-out stage tie - bettering French side Lyon's old mark of 10-2 against Werder Bremen in the 2004/05 season.
Jurgen Klinsmann's side breezed comfortably into the quarter-finals after a dominating display, despite being without star-men Luca Toni and Franck Ribery who were missing with injury.
Few clubs will now relish the chance of meeting the German side, who became the first team to score 12 goals over two legs in a Champions League knock-out tie.
The only thing that took the shine off the result for Bayern slightly was when Lucas Podolski limped off holding his thigh late on.

"We wanted to show from the first second who was the boss.
"The team took this game very seriously.
"Sporting realised we weren't going to give them anything and we now have ten busy weeks ahead of us.
"We need players like Lukas Podolski to be at the top of their game and he showed a cast-iron will today."
