Crouch helped make sure Pompey went out on a high note
Peter Crouch scored twice as Portsmouth ended their Uefa Cup campaign with a comfortable victory over Heerenveen.
Pompey, who went into the game knowing they could not progress from their group, went in front when Crouch headed home a Marc Wilson cross.
The tall striker added a second less than two minutes later when he tapped in after a mesmerising run from Kanu.
Hermann Hreidarsson completed the scoring when he headed in from a Glen Little cross in the last minute.
Crouch should have ensured an even more memorable finish to the club's first ever season in Europe with a hat-trick.
He missed two good chances to open the scoring in the early stages, sidefooting wide from Armand Traore's cross and then firing against the bar.
Heerenveen keeper Brian Vandenbussche denied a Crouch header, while Kanu also fired wide from close range.
But Crouch's persistence paid off with two goals just before half-time to set them on their way to victory.
The visitors had threatened early through a Paulo Henrique shot that was saved by Jamie Ashdown and an effort from Roy Beerens that struck the woodwork.
And they should have reduced Pompey's advantage just after the break when substitute Tarik Elyounoussi dragged his low shot wide of the near post.
Crouch had one final chance to take home the match ball, but Vandenbussche closed him down well and smothered his header.
It was left to Hreidarsson to finish off the scoring and seal a fine victory for Tony Adams's side.
