Atletico to contest Uefa verdict

Atletico Madrid have asked the Court of Arbitration for Sport to appeal against a decision to order a Champions League match to be played at an empty ground.

After racist and violent behaviour by Atletico fans, Uefa insisted the home game with PSV Eindhoven on 26 November should be played behind closed doors.

But Cas, the highest court of appeal in sport, said it would hear Atletico's case and would fast-track the verdict.

Atletico also want to have a fine of 150,000 (�122,000) euros overturned.

The case refers to incidents during Atletico's Champions League clash with Marseille at the Vicente Calderon Stadium on 1 October.

The Spanish side were initially given a three-match stadium ban, with one deferred, and told to play at least 300 kilometres away from Madrid.

That punishment was reduced to two matches behind closed doors, with one match deferred for two years, but the two-match touchline ban against coach Javier Aguirre remained.

It means he is banned from "carrying out his function" for the games at Liverpool on Tuesday and the visit of PSV three weeks later.
