Bent (right) wants the win to be the start of better things for Spurs
Match winner Darren Bent admitted Thursday's 2-1 Uefa Cup win at home to Polish side Wisla Krakow was a big relief for under-pressure Spurs.
"The players are feeling the weight of expectation that's on their shoulders," said Bent after Spurs finally won at the fifth time of asking this season.
"I hope this result is the start of us putting things right."
Spurs boss Juande Ramos admitted: "We were in a bit of a bad run. We needed a win to give confidence to the team."
Ramos, whose side are bottom of the Premier League with just one point from four games, added that he hoped the result would spark "a positive run, leading to better results".
Tottenham took the lead in the first half through David Bentley, only for Tomas Jirsak to level the score 67 seconds later, before Bent headed the winner 17 minutes from time.
"I wanted to get more than a one-goal advantage but it wasn't to be," said Ramos, whose side travel to Poland for the second leg on Thursday, 2 October.
"The tie is very evenly balanced. The goal gives us a little bit of an advantage, which will be important, and it will be a difficult game in Poland."
Bent's goal was his third in as many games and Ramos admitted he is relying on his striker at the moment.
"Darren has played every minute so far this season and, one day, we'll have to give him a rest or it will be too much for him," said Ramos.
"We'll look for the most appropriate moment to do that."
