O'Hara powers in a shot against Slavia for his first Spurs goal

Tottenham survived a late Slavia Prague rally to secure a tie against PSV Eindoven in the Uefa Cup's last 16.

Spurs added to their 2-1 first leg lead against Slavia when Jamie O'Hara fired in a deflected shot off Martin Latka.

Darren Bent had a looping header tipped on to the crossbar before Matej Krajcik slotted in to give Slavia a lifeline.

The visitors went close when David Strihavka hooked a shot against the post and Milan Ivana had a free-kick tipped wide but Spurs held on.

Tottenham manager Juande Ramos, who has won this competition for the past two seasons with Sevilla, had been given the ideal start when O'Hara's goal strengthened his side's grip on the tie.

The left-midfielder took the ball off Dimitar Berbatov after the visitors failed to clear a corner and drilled in a deflected 20-yard shot for his first Spurs goal.

O'Hara's strike gave Tottenham an even greater air of authority and they passed the ball around in an assured manner.

The home side almost increased their lead when Tom Huddlestone powered a shot at goal which keeper Michal Vorel could only parry.

Aaron Lennon seized on the rebound but sliced his effort disappointingly wide.

O'Hara was buzzing around the White Hart Lane pitch with enthusiasm and energy and he set up Bent for a looping header which was tipped on to the crossbar by Vorel.

Tottenham failed to make the most of their superiority and, if they thought it was too easy, they were given a fright when Jaroslav Cerny forced keeper Paul Robinson into a blocking save to keep out a fierce shot.

Spurs took off Berbatov at the break with one eye on the Carling Cup final on Sunday but they were stunned early on in the second half.

Daniel Pudil whipped in a superb low out-swinging cross which Matej Krajcik slotted in at the far post.

Slavia showed a new lease of life and should have scored again to level on aggregate.

Erich Brabec nodded a cross back to the unmarked Frantisek Drizdal, who headed straight into the arms of Robinson from eight yards.

Spurs were pinned back and Strihavka hit the woodwork, while Ivana saw a curling 22-yard free-kick palmed away by Robinson as Slavia scented a goal and some fear from the home side.

But a nervous Spurs managed to hold them at bay to book a path into the next round.
