Hargreaves has been out since September |
England midfielder Owen Hargreaves is closing in on a return to action with Bayern Munich after recovering from a broken leg. Hargreaves, 25, resumed training on Monday for the first time since the injury in September.
He told BBC Sport: "The injury is getting better and better and I'm feeling stronger all the time.
"I'm increasing my programme day-to-day so when I've been training for a week or two I'll probably play a half."
Hargreaves broke his leg while playing for Bayern against Arminia Bielefeld on 17 September.
He was initially expected to miss six weeks but has been sidelined for four months.
His progress has been slower than expected, since he returned to light training at the end of November.
However, with Bayern's season resuming after the winter break on 26 January Hargreaves is confident of returning to action soon after joining in with his fellow players during a club trip to Dubai.
He added: "I'm not going to set a date but things are going well
 | There is lots of speculation but I am just getting ready to go training and not focussing on other stuff |
"The next step is to train with the team on a regular basis. I just need to be careful that I don't get any serious knocks on it so I can feel my way back into it. It does take a while to get back in the rhythm
"It was good to train and get the football boots on again and it was nice to train with the team-mates after being out for four months. It's a different atmosphere training on your own and being injured.
"It comes down to how training goes and I feel.
"If things progress I'll be playing my first game in the near future."
Speculation linking him with his desired move to Manchester United in January continues but Hargreaves is concentrating on regaining his fitness.
England face Spain in a friendly international at Old Trafford on 7 February.
