GOALFLASHES AND MAJOR INCIDENTS (all times BST)
2221: A late change to the Inter Milan result with the Press Association sending a correction to their earlier goalflash. Dejan Stankovic did not score in the second half for the Italians so their result over Spartak Moscow is 2-1 instead of 3-1. It does not change the standings in Group B.
AS THE GROUPS STAND
Group A: Chelsea maintain their 100% record and are now five points clear of Barcelona and Werder Bremen. Levski Sofia are sinking fast with a goal difference of minus nine.
Group B: Bayern Munich also boast a 100% record and, like Chelsea, are five points clear of their nearest rivals. Sporting lead the chase, but Inter's long-awaited first win means you can expect them to push the Portuguese all the way.
Group C: Victories for Liverpool and PSV Eindhoven and they are both on seven points, six ahead of Galatasaray and Bordeaux. That looks done and dusted then.
Group D: More of the same. Valencia and Roma are opening up a healthy cushion. The Spanish side are on nine points with the Italians on six. Olympiacos and Shakhtar Donetsk are rooted to the bottom on one.
2136: FULL-TIME
The last match to finish is Galatasaray after that late delay. There may not have been many goals but the groups are beginning to take shape at the midway stage of the group phase.
2135: And Liverpool have won as well, so like Chelsea, they top their group.
2134: That is it for Chelsea who open up a commanding lead at the top of Group A and the fans know it. The club have littered flags around Stamford Bridge and it is a blue and white flag waving carnival in west London.
2132: Play stops at Galatasaray as the stewards get heavy with a bloke who runs on to the pitch. Not surprising given their surrender of a goal lead which means they may have to settle for Uefa Cup football after the group stages.
2131: Stephen Warnock could have wrapped that up for Liverpool but he shoots straight at Ulrich Rame who saves with his legs.
2130: Deco works some space on the right of the area, but his low shot is saved by Hilario.
2128: Bordeaux are pumping crosses and long throws into the Liverpool box but the Reds look pretty comfortable at the back.
2125: Bordeaux are finally beginning to push for an equaliser against Liverpool but it is a lot of huff and puff and not much poise.
2121: That means there is now a goal in every match, but one more is needed to equal the lowest return of any of the previous group rounds this season.
2120: GOAL Olympiacos 0-1 Roma
Roma break the deadlock in Greece with a goal from Italian international Simone Perrotta. They will be cheering in the streets of Ashton-under-Lyme - birthplace of the midfielder.
2118: RED CARD Shakhtar Donetsk
Already two down to Valencia, the Ukrainians will have to see out the final 15 minutes in Spain with 10 men after Viacheslav Sviderskiy is sent off for a second bookable offence.
2117: GOAL Inter Milan 3-1 Spartak Moscow
Dejan Stankovic restores Inter's two-goal advantage.
2116: GOAL Werder Bremen 2-0 Levski Sofia
Werder look to have sewn up the points in their match with Ribas Diego adding a second. If the scores stay as they are in Group A, the Germans will draw level on four points with Barcelona.
2115: Lionel Messi wriggles into the Chelsea box on the right byeline but his pull back is thumped clear by John Terry to huge cheers.
2113: GOAL Galatasaray 1-2 PSV Eindhoven
The Dutch have turned their game around with a goal from an Ivorian. Arouna Kone is played through one-on-one and makes no mistake with a low finish.
2110: Victor Valdes keeps Barcelona in the game with a good double save. He denies Didier Drogba and is then up quickly to dive at the feet of Michael Essien as he looks to slide in and convert the rebound.
2109: If you fancy Chelsea and Barcelona as likely finalists in Athens on 23 May next year the odds are pretty prohibitive, unless you're loaded. Still seven months and 108 matches to go and you can only get them at 5-1.
2107: At Chelsea the match is really bubbling up nicely. It's cut and thrust stuff.
2103: Bordeaux have not mustered up much of response to Liverpool's goal.
2101: GOAL Galatasaray 1-1 PSV Eindhoven
Another goal in Group C and it is former Liverpool defender Jan Kromkamp who levels things up for PSV Eindhoven in Turkey. His shot slips through the fingers of goalkeeper Farid Mondragon, which begs the question as to whether someone slipped Mogadon in the Galatasaray half-time drinks?
2059: GOAL Bordeaux 0-1 Liverpool
Both English clubs are now a goal up. Peter Crouch almost scored in the first-half having been set up by Craig Bellamy and this time he does. The Englishman heads in the Welshman's whipped corner.
2057: Moments after Chelsea waste a three on two break, Andriy Shevchenko gets the ball in space on the right of the area but balloons the ball over the bar.
2056: Inter Milan 2-1 Spartak Moscow
Surely Inter are not going to throw their advantage away. Roman Pavluchenko pulls one back when he slides in to convert Denis Boyarintev's cross from the right.
2054: Ronaldinho lines up a free-kick in a central position for Barcelona. It is on target, but Hilario makes a comfortable save high to his left.
2051: RED CARD Bayern Munich
Bastian Schweinsteiger has gone from hero to villain and talks the long walk to an early bath after picking up a second booking..
2050: Barca have gone 15 games in the Champions League without losing. They last lost in March 2005 at Stamford Bridge.
2048: GOAL Chelsea 1-0 Barcelona
Chelsea come out of the blocks like a rocket and Didier Drogba fires a rocket into the Barca goal. He picks up the ball on the edge of his area with his back to goal, digs it out and spins to fire in a cracker high into the net.
2045: The action resumes.
2032: HALF-TIME
Ronaldo Naldo's free-kick was pretty close to the last kick of the half in Germany and all 16 teams around the continent head for a breather in the dressing rooms.
2030: GOAL Werder Bremen 1-0 Levski Sofia
Bundesliga leaders Werder break the deadlock with a goal from Ronaldo Naldo. His free-kick clips the wall as it breaks and trickles in at the post.
2029: GOAL Valencia 2-0 Shakhtar Donetsk
David Villa strikes again. Again it is from close range as he heads in Joaquin's cross from the right.
2028: Frank Lampard picks out Michael Ballack at a corner but the German's header is straight down the throat of Victor Valdes.
2025: Lionel Messi, Stamford Bridge's pantomime villain for the night, goes on a direct run into the box before being crowded out by three blue shirts. A footballing equivalent of he's - or they're - behind you!
2024: Peter Crouch is in again and does well to control Xabi Alonso's delightful, deep pass but scuffs his shot which Ulrich Rame smothers at the post.
2020: An absolute gem of a chance for Liverpool which Peter Crouch stabs wide. Craig Bellamy floats a cross from the left to the far post where Crouch, in absolutely ocean's of space, volleys wide of the target.
2016: GOAL Valencia 1-0 Shakhtar Donetsk
David Villa picks up the ball after some poor defending and rounds keeper Stipe Pletikosa to score.
2015: Graham Taylor's phase of fencing is clearly well and truly over. Frank Lampard is played in space outside the Barca area and fires a shot over.
2014: Hilario's called into action again and this time saves well low to his left at the post. A neat passing move from Barca ends with Xavi's stinging shot from inside the area.
2010: Liverpool should be a goal down. Johan Micoud meets a Wendell free-kick Wendell with a lack of conviction and the Frenchman's poor header sums up his malaise in front of goal since returning to the club in the summer.
2008: Hilario is called into action. Deco plays in Lionel Messi on the right. The wee Argentine's first touch forces him wide but he still gets a shot on goal which Chelsea's third-choice keeper gets a firm palm to deflect away.
2005: That Bayern goal maintains a proud record of scoring in consecutive Champions League matches. That makes it 13 and counting. Unlucky 13 for Bayern? Time will tell.
2004: GOAL Sporting 0-1 Bayern Munich
Bastian Schweinsteiger opens the scoring in the match between the top two in Group B and what a goal it is. After good build up he lashes in a shot from 35 yards.
2003: GOAL Galatasaray 1-0 PSV Eindhoven
The home fans at Galatasaray are rocking in the stands as one. Umit Karan slides a delightful pass through to Sasa Ilic and his deflected shot nestles in the back of the net.
2001: Andriy Shevchenko again, and again he misses the target. The Ukrainian climbs well at the subsequent corner but heads high and wide.
2000: A chance for Chelsea at the other end. Didier Drogba plays in Andriy Shevchenko but the ball gets caught under his feet in front of an open goal and Rafael Marquez comes steaming in with a crucial clearance.
1957: Barcelona have a sight of goal but Gianluca Zambrotta makes a complete hash of that chance on the right of the area with an air-shot. The home crowd lap it up.
1956: Maybe Inter's great start should not really come as much of a surprise despite their poor form in the tournament so far. Spartak have gone 19 matches without a win.
1954: GOAL Inter Milan 2-0 Spartak Moscow
Inter are flying. Alvaro Recoba is released down the left by Maicon and his chipped delivery is headed in by Julio Cruz.
1952: Frank Lampard's corner flashes across the Barca box before the Spanish clear. On that evidence Chelsea could prosper from set-pieces.
1951: Liverpool are looking lively in Bordeaux, sporting shirts shorn of their sponsor's logo. Television rules in France dictate you cannot advertise alcohol on the box.
1949: Boos echo around Stamford Bridge. That signals that Lionel Messi has got the ball. When the teams met last season he was the victim of the tackle that resulted in Asier Del Horno being sent off.
1947: GOAL Inter Milan 1-0 Spartak Moscow
Inter have not wasted any time in their must-win match. Julio Cruz gives them the lead with the club's first goal in this season's competition. He pounces after Alvaro Recoba's free-kick is deflected into his path off Patrick Vieira.
1945: There goes the shrill blast of the referee's whistle around the grounds and we are up and running.
"Chelsea and Barcelona will have a look at each other for the first 10 minutes. They will fence with each other."
Graham Taylor, BBC Five Live analyst
1943: The stands in Galatasaray are almost as colourful as that Barca strip. Huge red and yellow flags welcome the players. Flares fire off in the stands in Bordeaux ahead of Liverpool's match.
1942: Teams emerge around the eight grounds. Barcelona are wearing their garish fluorescent orange away strip.
1940: In each of the last two rounds of Champions League action these four groups - Groups A-D - have outscored the other four - Groups E-H. They will have to go some to maintain that record after 25 goals flew in on Tuesday night.
TEAM NEWS
Group A
Hilario comes in for his much-talked about Chelsea debut and Ashley Cole returns at left-back. Eidur Gudjohnsen makes his return to Stamford Bridge in the Barcelona starting XI with Samuel Eto'o out injured. Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi also start.
Werder Bremen are without Tim Borowski and Frank Baumann so Jurica Vranjes will play as the midfield enforcer. Underdogs Levski Sofia are boosted by news that striker Valeri Domovchiyski has proved his fitness and will start.
Group B
Inter Milan welcome back Patrick Vieira from suspension but will have to do without Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Fabio Grosso who were dismissed in their last match. Striker Hernan Crespo had been pushing for a recall but misses out. Defender Martin Stranzl is out with flu, but midfielder Radoslav Kovac starts for Spartak Moscow.
Sporting Lisbon have never beaten a German team in eight attempts but if they do so tonight will go top of the group. But Bayern Munich boss Felix Magath threatened to go on the attack and he has lived up to his word by including Roque Santa Cruz, Claudio Pizarro and Lukas Podolski.
Group C
Vladimir Smicer misses the match for Bordeaux against his former employees with a thigh injury. Liverpool are without Steven Gerrard, Mohamed Sissoko and Dirk Kuyt. Luis Garcia and Mark Gonzalez start on the flanks, with Boudewijn Zenden in central midfield and Craig Bellamy and Peter Crouch up front.
Galatasaray are without Hasan Sas so Hakan Sukur will be the attacking focus. He is in good form having scored four goals for Turkey against Moldova recently. In an effort to end a barren run of failing to score in five of their last six Champions League away games, PSV Eindhoven opt for three in attack.
Group D
Olympiacos tuned up with a weekend friendly because local elections forced the suspension of league action. They entertain an under-strength Roma side. Vincenzo Montella, Mancini, Philippe Mexes and David Pizarro are all out, but Francesco Totti and Matteo Ferrari have shaken off knocks.
Valencia rest Roberto Ayala, but international striker David Villa starts despite coach Quique Sanchez Flores mulling over the pros and cons of leaving him on the sidelines. Croatia goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa is in goal for Shakhtar Donetsk and can expect a busier night than he had last Wednesday against England's lamentable strikeforce.
