Beckham has had a difficult start to the season at Real |
David Beckham had a rare start for Real Madrid but was unable to prevent Fabio Capello's side from slipping to their first league defeat of the season. Midfielder Beckham, who had lost his place to Jose Antonio Reyes, played for 68 minutes before he was replaced by Robinho in Real's 1-0 defeat at Getafe.
Real's misery was compounded late on when striker Ronaldo was sent off for dissent - his second booking.
Defender Alexis scored Getafe's winner, heading in a corner on the hour.
With Reyes injured, former England captain Beckham was deployed in a five-man midfield behind Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was the sole striker.
"We played badly and couldn't cope with Getafe's speed and aggression," said Real Madrid coach Capello.
"We deserved to lose and there are no excuses."
Ronaldo's red card means he will miss Real's home game against Spanish champions Barcelona on 22 October.
