Woodgate, 26, has not played since February

Real boss Juan Lopez Caro said he did not know when Woodgate would return.

"I know the medical team are doing a lot of tests on him and looking at different options and they'll choose the best one," he told realmadrid.com

One option could be a back operation to solve the chronic thigh problems the 26-year-old has suffered since he joined Real in 2004.

He has played only nine league games this season following his return from an 18-month lay-off because of a torn thigh muscle.

The defender was hoping to force his way back into the England squad ahead of the World Cup in June, but as Real have only seven games left, that now seems unrealistic.

Woodgate's last game for Real was in the first leg of their Champions League tie against Arsenal, but he lasted only nine minutes before limping off.

England skipper David Beckham remains very doubtful for Real's game against Real Sociedad on Saturday with bruised ribs.
