Van Nistelrooy notched his first goal in a Real shirt on the US tour |
Ruud van Nistelrooy scored and David Beckham made his first appearance since being dropped by England as Real Madrid beat Real Salt Lake 2-0 in a friendly. Former Manchester United striker Van Nistelrooy, who signed for the club in a 10.3m deal in July, notched his first goal Madrid goal with a penalty.
He then laid on the ball for Robinho to seal the win in the United States.
Beckham came on at half-time before Salt Lake's Atiba Harris was sent off for a tackle that resulted in a melee.
Harris' challenge was representative of an ill-disciplined performance from Salt Lake, which started just before the break when Willis Forko felled Antonio Cassano to concede the penalty.
While Brazilian Robinho made an immediate impact upon his introduction, scoring the second and forcing a fine save from keeper Jay Nolly from distance, Beckham failed to produce his best form.
The midfielder was surprisingly omitted from Steve McClaren's first squad as England manager on Friday but has vowed to win back his place.
He was one of five players introduced by new Madrid boss Fabio Capello at the interval.
