Longford Town claimed their first ever victory in Europe by beating Welsh side Carmarthen Town 2-0 in their Uefa Cup qualifier at Flancare Park. Goals from Stephen Paisley (35 mins) and Barry Ferguson (55) ensured a deserved win for the FAI Cup holders.
Longford took the lead when Paisley brilliantly beat Tony Pennock with a right-foot volley.
The home side netted a second when Alan Kirby's corner was powerfully headed in by captain Ferguson at the far post.
Longford had the advantage of being well into their domestic campaign and their out-of-season opponents will just be glad to still be in with a chance when the two sides meet in the return leg on 28 July.
