The athletic Hunt was on target for Rhyl |
Lee Hunt scored twice as Rhyl recorded their first win in Europe - beating Atlantas 2-1 in the first leg of their Uefa Cup qualifying tie. Hunt rose at the far post to head home a Wayne Graves corner after 11 minutes.
Andy Moran then headed wide and Chris Adamson went close, before Hunt scored Rhyl's second from close range.
Atlantas defender Kazimeras Gnedojus saw red for a second bookable offence, but the Lithuanian side pulled a goal back through Rimantas Zvingilas.
The late goal means that Rhyl face a tough test now in the second leg in two week's time.
Rhyl made their first appearance in Europe last season, losing 7-1 on aggregate to Latvian side Skonto Riga.
But the Welsh side showed they had learned from the experience.
The visitors enjoyed long spells of possession but Rhyl soaked up the pressure before opening the scoring.
Atlantas pushed forward again after conceding and Rhyl goalkeeper Gerard McGuigan impressively blocked Andrius Laurisas Ksanavicius' stabbed effort from close range.
Adamson then forced Arnas Lekevicius into action, the keeping making a save at full stretch, while at the other end Andrius Petrekis glanced a header wide from Kestutis Deveika's chipped cross.
Hunt's goal with 20 minutes left put Rhyl in a superb position - and Horan then hit the bar from a Graves corner.
But the match had a sting in the tail for the home team when substitute Zvingilas struck with 14 minutes remaining.
