Ian Rush said he is unlikely to come out of retirement and play for TNS against Liverpool when the teams meet in the Champions League. Rush is a good friend of TNS managing director Mike Harris - who wants the striker to play for TNS.
But the 43-year-old Rush told BBC Sport: "Mike is a good friend of mine and I will be meeting with him next week for a chat.
"But I do not think I will be coming out of retirement."
Rush opened TNS' 500-seater stand four years ago and coached their strikers before their Uefa Cup tie against Manchester City two years ago.
And Rush admitted he would be keen to help TNS.
"I will see how serious Mike is," added Rush. "I'd do anything to help them.
"I still play quite a bit and have a couple of games in Nigeria coming up.
"I keep myself fit but playing against the European champions is a bit different."
Harris was delighted by TNS' draw for the first qualifying round of the Champions League - pitching the Welsh Premier League team against the holders.
And he said of Rush: "I'm sure we'll be talking soon and when we do I'll ask him to put his boots back on.
"The sight of Ian Rush on the bench against his former club would give the side a massive lift."
