David James - 5: Patchy. Made some good saves but the Manchester City keeper was partly at fault for Colombia's opening goal.
Phil Neville - 6: Did not get forward as often as brother Gary usually does from right-back but a solid enough performance defensively.
Glen Johnson - 5: Looked like a fish out of water in the centre of defence. Caught in possession far too often and suspect positionally.
Zat Knight - 7: Impressive again. Looked like a solid figure in the centre of defence. Made some good tackles and had real authority.
Ashley Cole - 6: Looked to support Joe Cole as often as possible, but was often preoccupied with his defensive requirements.
David Beckham - 7: Busy. Looked to get on the ball as often as possible, made some crunching tackles and put in some trademark crosses.
Jermaine Jenas - 6: Sound if unspectacular. Looked to get forward but was always mindful of his defensive responsibilities.
Michael Carrick - 8: Industrious. Superb discipline sitting in front of the back four, broke up a lot of Colombian play and provided a defensive shield.
Joe Cole - 8: Continues to grow in confidence. Might have scored in the first minute and played a good through ball for Michael Owen's opener.
Peter Crouch - 7: Struggled to impose himself on the match at first but showed some nimble footwork and his pass led to Michael Owen's second.
Michael Owen - 9:STAR MAN His hat-trick takes him to fourth in England's scoring list. Showed he has lost none of his predatory instinct.
