Forlan scored twice in Villarreal's 4-1 victory against Levante |
Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan scored twice to become Spain's top marksman as Villarreal secured their place in the Champions League. Villarreal came from behind to beat Levante 4-1 on Sunday and send their opponents down to the second division.
Uruguayan Forlan took his total for the season to 25 goals, overtaking Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o.
It is the first time Villarreal have reached the Champions League and they are joined by Real Betis.
Espanyol completed their best campaign in nine years with fifth spot in the league and a Uefa Cup place thanks to a 2-0 home win over Athletic Bilbao.
They will be joined in Europe by Sevilla, despite their 2-0 home defeat by fellow Andalucians Malaga.
