Porto have installed Co Adriaanse as their replacement for departed coach Jose Couceiro. Adriaanse guided Dutch side AZ Alkmaar to the semi-finals of the Uefa Cup this season and third place in the league.
He takes over from Couceiro, who left the club after they failed to retain their league title, won by Benfica.
Couceiro, Porto's third manager of the season, was given the chance to stay on but said: "I think the situation would not be good for me or for the club."
FC Porto president Jorge Pinto da Costa hinted at what fans can expect from their new coach when he said that Adriaanse "likes total football, attacking football".
