Cech, who cost �7m, made a string of saves, though he could not keep out two Ronaldinho strikes, one a penalty.

"He made five important saves and two match-winners - one a tip onto the post and another (low) on the line," said the former Arsenal legend.

"He is probably at the moment looking the best goalkeeper in the world."

Wilson said it was hard to find someone who came close to matching Cech, who joined Chelsea from French side Rennes in the summer of 2004 - initially, it was thought, as an understudy to Carlo Cudicini.

"People say 'go and buy a goalie' - but outside of Petr Cech I cannot give you a list," said Wilson.

Juventus' Italian international Gianluigi Buffon is often widely described as the best in the world, having joined the club for �33m in 2001 to become the world's most expensive goalkeeper.
